Lani has over thirty years’ experience as an independent organisational behaviour practitioner in New Zealand, Australia and the United Kingdom, and as a contract lecturer at universities and tertiary institutions. She has studied the human search for meaning all her life, through philosophy and comparative religion in her undergraduate degree and through independent study. The key focus of her work is to help people take responsibility for and reclaim power over themselves, their lives and their work. Kieren McGovern is a sustainable development policy and programme practitioner. He is currently working on aligning responsive and inclusive financing to sustainable development portfolio generation. He is using systems thinking for linking SDG national implementation to local economic development for strengthened social cohesion. He worked with the United Nations Development Programme to develop the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in the Solomon Islands and with the International Organisation of Migration in the tribal violence affected communities of the Highlands of Papua New Guinea. In these roles he used climate adaptation to address humanitarian needs, stimulate local economic development and create space for community generated peacebuilding. Infrastructure Economist and Strategist in Asset Management – Retired
Dr Penny Burns has announced her retirement. See the post detailing her achievements throughout her influential career. Penny remains an Adviser to the firm, as long as she doesn’t have to meet deadlines and participate in managing the organisation. She is now enjoying the simple pleasures of reflection and writing as she develops her new website “Penny’s Place” which is under development.
Leadership of “Talking Infrastructure” has now passed to the next generation of thinkers and activists, to enable Penny to pick up the historical account where “The Story of Asset Management (1984-1993)” left off. She is uploading to “Penny’s Place” all 400 issues of “Strategic Asset Management 1994-2024” and a selection of her other writing.
“Penny’s Place” will also include her latest thoughts on old problems that are yet to be solved, and new problems that are y et to be recognised.

Dr Jane Stanley is Managing Director of FOCUS Pty Ltd, a broad based planning consultancy operating nationally and internationally. Among other things, Jane is providing ongoing support for regenerative farming innovations including carbon farming amongst farming groups in south-west Victoria as well as a Master Plan for a major organic farm, Australia. She is working with the circular economy of Kiribati involving seaweed farming for compost and carbon sequestration, processing wastes for energy and soil amendments, and building island soils for improved food security. And is also providing advice for development of a new Pacific program for renewable energy for the Asian Development Bank.
Jane is qualified in architecture, planning, social and economic research. She is author of the award winning textbook “Gnarly Planning: tools for local and global action“, the Australian handbook “Building Indigenous Economies“, and the new e=book “How to Build Local Economies“. Jane has been the President of the Australian Chapter and Member of the International Council of EAROPH (Eastern Regional Organisation for Planning and Human Settlements), the Asia Pacific peak body for the built environment; and President of the International Division of the Planning Institute of Australia, and Past Adjunct Professor at the Australian National University and the University of Canberra.
